Kennedy performed this session 5 days before the first round of the US Olympic Trials 5,000m. He would go on to win the trials and then set the then-American record of 12:58 a few weeks after that victory. It was an impressive year which culminated with a 6th place finish at the Atlanta Olympic games in 5,000m.
