Quote of the Day — Practice Trumps Theory

QOTD _ 9.4.2020.png

“In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.” ― Benjamin Brewster

There is a big difference between theory vs. practice.

Theory assumes an outcome, while practice allows you to test the theory and see if it is accurate.

Practice is applied theory. The better theories you develop the more clarity you’ll have in practice. Learning theory can be boring, but it’s necessary. Once you’ve grasped the theoretical, you can the transfer it into the real world through practice. Which is exciting.

But be prepared to fail and to find unexpected results. Theory is neat. Practice is messy.

“An ounce of practice is generally worth more than a ton of theory,” E. F. Schumacher wisely said.

What theory offers is initial learning. Practice affords deep understanding. The experiences gained in practice are what help you really understand, adjust, and ultimately improve. Putting to practice what you know helps make clear what you do not know.
