Quote of the Day — The Best of Anything Cannot Be Rushed

“The Best of Anything cannot be rushed: cooking, training, art, and of course, our relationships with others.” — Brett Bartholomew, author of Conscious Coaching: The Art & Science of Building Buy-In.

There are a lot of things that don’t matter in sport. These are typically anything which promises fast results like flashy apps, tracking devices, or the latest gear. If you pay too much attention to those things you will get lost. Learn out to tune what doesn’t matter out and instead focus on what does — time, consistent action, and relationships.

The good stuff in sport, and life, takes time to develop. I’m glad it does. It means you’re going to be doing this for a while, day in and day out, for months, if not years. Invest in the the long haul because it is the quickest possible path to reaching your goals. Shortcuts, while attractive, are dead ends. Actions taken today in practice may not reflect until 3-6 weeks or months from now.

The slow march of progress is a gift. It gives us a reason to spend more time with others, athletes, teammates, friends, and further strengthen the bonds of camaraderie which make the process, and life, itself so sweet.
