Link of the Day: Learn How to Deadlift

In addition to squats, I think deadlifts are a required strength training exercise for runners.

Why?

The low back and legs are at a war for control over your pelvic tilt — and the low back must win.

Regular deadlifting teaches you how to align your lumbar spine and pelvis in a stable position.

This exercise is a complex exercise that targets virtually every major muscle, especially the trunk muscles of the posterior chain, including the back muscles, glutes, and hamstrings. All are vital to runners wanting to sustain economical locomotion over the long haul.

Today’s link is another great video tutorial from Coach Mark Rippetoe, author of Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training.

Rippetoe provides straightforward, correct, and sound information on how to deadlift properly.
