Book of the Day: Team of Teams

Title: Team of Teams

Author: Stanley A. McChrystal

From the book: “There is comfort in ‘doubling ‘down’ on proven processes, regardless of their efficacy. Few of us are criticized if we faithfully do what has worked many times before. But feeling comfortable or dodging criticism should not be our measure of success. That’s likely a place in paradise for people who tried hard, but what really matters is succeeding. If that requires you to change, that’s your mission.”

Takeaway: Sometimes we think of training for sport as life or death. It’s not. Sport is fun and games compared to military conflict. War is chaos. Clear, crisp thinking which results in successful action is impossibly tough in the heart of battle without a preexisting framework. What usually separates the quick from the dead are spilt second decisions - and luck. While this book can’t help improve your luck, it offers a useful framework for structuring a team environment so better connectedness and decisions making result.
