Context & Details
In a lot of ways 2010 was a breakout year for Galen. He ran 27:10 for 10,000m and 13:07 for 5,000m. Both then were personal bests.
This session came a little over a week after he had just run 13:10 for 5,000m in Europe. His coach was readying him to break 13 minutes that year in the 5,000m. Which this workout indicates was a realistic possibility.
But it didn't materialize, that would have to wait until 2012 at the Pre Classic where he ran 12:58.
However, he did rip a 7:43 3,000m almost a month after this session, which is still his best mark for that distance to this day.
