Book of the Day: From Last to First

Title: From Last to First

Author: Charlie Spedding

From the book: “I realized I had to do something different to get different results. I had to be committed; truly committed in a way many runners never grasp. I had to change my vocabulary. I realized that if I changed my vocabulary, I would change the thoughts in my head. When I changed my thoughts, I would change my actions. When I changed my actions, I would get different results.”

Takeaway: Spedding won an Olympic bronze medal in the marathon. He won the London marathon too. And has a personal best time of 2:08:33 for the distance. He wasn’t a high achieving runner in high school and college but, like Frank Shorter, when he fully applied himself to his running and started to run a lot and do it fast, he became world-class. This is a timeless rags-to-riches story of a marginal runner turned elite. He gives the inside scoop on he did it and offers inspiration to any average bloke looking to get better.
